JEWELLERY CARE & MATERIALS
Handmade Jewellery, Crafted to Be Worn and Loved
Every Iliana creation is handcrafted with care using precious and non-precious metals, natural gemstones, crystals and artisanal techniques.
Each piece is individually created, making it unique. Slight variations in colour, texture, shape and finish are part of its character and should be celebrated as evidence of true craftsmanship.
With proper care, your jewellery will remain beautiful for many years.
Embracing Wabi-Sabi
At Iliana, we believe that beauty lies in authenticity, individuality and the passage of time.
Our creations are inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi: the appreciation of beauty found in imperfection, simplicity and natural evolution.
Unlike mass-produced jewellery, handmade pieces carry the marks of the artisan's hand. Natural textures, subtle irregularities, unique stone patterns and evolving metal patinas are not imperfections to be corrected; they are part of the story of each piece.
Every creation is unique, just as every person and every journey is unique.
As your jewellery accompanies you through life, it may develop gentle signs of wear, changing tones and subtle transformations that reflect its history and the memories created while wearing it.
We embrace these changes as part of the beauty of handcrafted jewellery.
Our Materials
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is a precious metal composed of 92.5% pure silver.
Silver naturally reacts to air, humidity and certain chemicals and may develop a darker patina over time. This is a normal characteristic of silver and not a defect.
Regular cleaning with a soft polishing cloth will help maintain its shine.
Gold Jewellery
Our gold jewellery may be crafted from solid gold or gold components depending on the design.
Gold is highly durable but may still develop small scratches through normal wear. These marks are part of the natural ageing process of precious metals.
Gold-Plated Jewellery
Gold-plated jewellery consists of a base metal covered with a layer of gold.
Over time and depending on wear habits, body chemistry and environmental factors, gold plating may gradually fade. This is normal and not considered a manufacturing defect.
To prolong the life of gold plating:
- Avoid water and humidity.
- Avoid perfumes and cosmetics.
- Remove jewellery before sleeping or exercising.
- Store pieces separately.
Silver-Plated Jewellery
Silver-plated jewellery is coated with a layer of silver over another metal.
As with all plated jewellery, the finish may naturally wear over time depending on use and care.
Proper storage and avoidance of chemicals will help preserve the finish.
Brass
Brass is appreciated for its warm golden tone and artistic character.
Brass may naturally darken, oxidise or develop a patina over time. Many collectors value this evolving appearance as part of the material's beauty.
Brass can be restored using suitable polishing products.
Copper
Copper is a living material that changes naturally with exposure to air, moisture and skin chemistry.
Over time it may darken or develop a natural patina ranging from warm brown tones to greenish hues.
These changes contribute to the uniqueness of each piece.
German Silver
German Silver, also known as Nickel Silver, contains no silver despite its name.
It is valued for its durability, strength and beautiful silver-like appearance.
Like other metals, it may develop slight surface oxidation over time.
Natural Semi-Precious Stones
We carefully select natural gemstones and semi-precious stones for many of our designs.
Because these materials are created by nature:
- Colour variations may occur.
- Natural inclusions may be visible.
- Shape and texture may differ slightly.
These characteristics are signs of authenticity and make every creation unique.
Beads and Crystals
Many designs incorporate glass beads, crystal elements and decorative components.
To preserve their brilliance:
- Avoid impacts and drops.
- Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals.
- Store carefully to prevent scratching.
